This week I was in a networking group and someone mentioned how they have so many different businesses and messages that they didn’t know how to reach their audience effectively. As a content writer that got me thinking about what the core things are, Entrepreneurs might want to know about creating and distributing content. If you are one of those people who has many messages to share, there are definitely some things you want to think about as you create content. Writing is an art form, and you want to be sure that you have tailored your messages to the topics that your audiences need or want to hear. I want to give you a few tips on how you can do that. By the way, what I am going to share is not rocket science, but they are a few good reminders as you journey down the path of effective communication with your targets.
When I was a child, I learned the acronym of KISS. Keep It Simple Stupid. While I will admit, I struggle with this, it’s a great rule to follow when you are writing content. Keep the thoughts simple. Find ways to remove additional adverbs, adjectives, and prepositions. The more people must read, the more opportunities they have to get lost in the content and that is not what you want. If you have factual content or other sources you want to refer to in your writing, you can also create links, integrate them in your content and direct your readers there. This will allow the reader to determine if they want to explore a specific topic in more detail. Keep it to the point and remove any extra fluff. This will help your reader with digesting the message you want to them to digest.
Catch your readers attention. Headlines are a great way to get your reader interested in the content that you are creating. Keep titles short as well. The shorter and more impactful they are, the more you can engage your audience. Make it catchy, fun, and punchy. Use great keywords that will flow through your content to increase your Search Engine Optimization. You can also use headlines to break up various pieces of your content by themes and/or different ideas.
When creating content, ask your target audience what they want and need to hear about. Market Research is a great way to determine what will be effective. During this time, get close and personal with your ideal audience. If you do not have that level of market research yet, think about new news, enhancements to your products, trending topics, statistics. Educate your audience or teach them something new. Great content is informative, educational but overall fun. Your content should in some way answer your readers question of “what’s in it for me?”
You might be asking how you can structure your content. Trying using the 5 W’s as you develop content. Be sure to add the Who, What, When, Where and How. These are great guidelines to get you started. Another key tip in content creation is your ability to tell a very good and engaging story. Be descriptive. Great content includes images and ideas that people can visualize. Remember, as the old saying goes “a picture is worth a thousand words” These words are very true.
Lastly, remember to add a call to action to your content. What is a call to action? It’s the action you want your audience to take after they have read your content. As an example, if you are looking to create great content and need some support in building that content, email us at [email protected] and let’s create some amazing content together. I would love to support you in your journey! Have a great day guys! I hope this was helpful.
