One of the best gifts you can give to yourself as a new business owner is a healthy mind and body. You know the saying “you are what you eat?”, well I don’t know how much I believe that… I would be an Oreo cookie because that’s my weakness but keeping yourself healthy is important to making good decisions, effective business plans and sound strategic decisions. Keeping yourself healthy is also a form of self-love and let’s face it, no one is going to love you the way you should love yourself.
So what can you do to stay healthy? Start with good sleep. While I am personally challenged in this area, it’s important to allow your mind to slow down before bed. Put down all technological devices, shut down all apps and let your mind start to relax. Read a good book. I’m currently reading the Psychology
Of Persuasion by Robert B. Cialdini. It’s awesome. I recommend it. It’s a great book around different ways the mind responds to influence and persuasion.
It’s certainly helpful in understanding how to approach clients. Every night before bed, I wind down, put my phone away, shut the tv off and read to recharge my
mind. That also allows me to stop my brain from going a million miles while simultaneously preparing it for a restful sleep.
Along with great sleep, take time to be in a peaceful mindset when you are awake.
If you can meditate or just sit in silence a few minutes per day, you will see how much easier it is to be productive when you need to be. By doing this, You are giving your mind the time and training it needs to manage being focused. During this time, you can also journal, pray, take a walk or just be. Daily moments of silence are great gifts to ourselves and our business. In those moments, new ideas and answers to challenges are borne.
Now the hard part. A healthy diet. When you eat lots of fruits, vegetables and healthy snacks, it helps to revive, rejuvenate and renew your body and thoughts so you can effectively plan for your business. Snacks will allow you not to get too full. When you are full, your body gets tired and that can lead to reduced motivation. Remember to stay hydrated and drink lots of water. All these items will help your mind stay focused on your business goals. Part of healthy living is having a plan for your business. That will keep you feeling safe, secure and in a more restful state.
The above being said, another part of a healthy regiment is Planning. Create a strategy for your business. Think about what your sales metrics are going to be for a given period and what you need to get there. Be thoughtful when creating your marketing and advertising strategy. That will help you manage the stress and anxiety that can come with creating your new business and making it successful. Remember to map out your budget that you can spend to market, brand and sell your product. Ask your market research targets what they would best respond to in an attempt to influence them to buy. Maybe they are on social media all day so they prefer messages, updates, incentives or benefit information on social media versus an email. Ask yourself what your staffing model should look like. Who do you need to support you in building your empire. Remember, it’s ok to outsource resources. That gives you time to focus on what you do best or specialize in. What is your long term strategy to sustain the business and yourself?
