10 Things I learned in 2020

What a year 2020 has been. It’s definitely one for the books. Not only did we suffer a global pandemic but we experienced a shutdown and a life changing period in our government and world. It’s been a wild ride. Most people either made it out stronger with more vigor and passion then before or they have succumb to allowing themselves to feel defeated. Either way, it’s safe to say, we have all learned something in this time.

In honor of Thanksgiving, I wanted to share a few things I learned in 2020. You’re welcome! I’m excited to see if this year has taught you a few things you would love to share.

Here are 10 things I learned or should I say remembered in 2020. Most of these I knew already but became even more present and clear for me.

  1. Be thankful for all you have, big or small and take nothing for granted. Life is short and we have so much to be thankful for starting with this experience of life. While it’s a journey, we have the amazing opportunity to form how we want to live it. Enjoy the ride!
  2. Building a business is not easy but it can be rewarding. Set goals, create a plan, measure your goals and pay attention to your analytics. All of those will help you grow a better business. Planning is a critical step in your path to success.
  3. Social media is a great brand awareness tool. Not only can you use social media to connect with family, friends and loved ones but as a business owner, it’s a great way to casually connect with people who represent your ideal client. Be deliberate about what you post and know that it can impact your brand. Use relevant hashtags to increase your brand presence and stay in the know on trending topics.
  4. Blogging is important. Even if you think no one is reading your blog, it keeps you committed to developing your thoughts, connecting with your tribe and increasing your SEO success strategy and presence in the world of search engines. Remember to share your research, stats and facts when you can. It will help to build credibility in your content.
  5. Value your time!  When you are pricing your packages and solutions, remember that your time and expertise is valuable. Don’t allow others to take you for granted. Be steadfast in your pricing models so you are giving your products and services consistent credibility. I’ll admit, I’m challenged here. I’m learning though. 2021 is my year!
  6. Your customers matter! It’s important to provide outstanding customer service, even when you don’t want to. See, your clients are your key to a successful business through things like retention, word of mouth referrals,  reviews and more. Be available to them and provide ways for them to reach you with questions or issues.
  7. Do what you are great at and don’t be afraid to spend on what you are not. As entrepreneurs, we tend to try and do everything ourselves. It’s not ideal, optimal or smart. It takes away from the time you need to do the things you are best at. Allow the experts to do what they do best and focus on the parts of your business that you love. Allow yourself to spend money, support other resources or businesses and get the help you need.
  8. Networking is key to building business. Even in the pandemic, many networking activities are  happening online. Schedule one on ones with people you meet via networking events and share your business story and needs with them. You would be surprised what resources you obtain including new clients when you spend time networking.
  9. Stay active. Facebook or Instagram Live is a great way to share your expertise. Let your audience see and hear that you are expert in your area. Digital connection is key as it shows you are using the latest technology to stay connected and that connection with your audience is important to you. Sales are made through these connections. Show your products and services and allow your audience to ask questions.
  10. You can do anything you put your mind to. Just stick with it! Have patience! Have fun! Challenge yourself and remember that you got this! You will win. Believe in yourself.
